Hemopressin: a novel bioactive peptide derived from the α1-chain of hemoglobin
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hemopressin (PVNFKFLSH), a novel bioactive peptide derived from the α1-chain of hemoglobin, was originally isolated from rat brain homogenates. Hemopressin causes hypotension in anesthetized rats and is metabolized in vivo and in vitro by endopeptidase 24.15 (EP24.15), neurolysin (EP24.16), and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). Hemopressin also exerts an antinociceptive action in experimental inflammatory hyperalgesia induced by carrageenin or bradykinin via a mechanism that is independent of opioids. These findings suggest that this peptide may have important regulatory physiological actions in vivo.

Novel natural peptide substrates for endopeptidase 24.15, neurolysin, and angiotensin-converting enzyme.
Endopeptidase 24.15 (EC; ep24.15), neurolysin (EC; ep24.16), and angiotensin-converting enzyme (EC; ACE) are metallopeptidases involved in neuropeptide metabolism in vertebrates. Using catalytically inactive forms of ep24.15 and ep24.16, we have identified new peptide substrates for these enzymes. The enzymatic activity of ep24.15 and ep24.16 was inactivated by site-directed mutagenesis of amin...

متن کاملA Report on Finding a New Peptide Aldehyde from Cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. Bahar M by LC-MS and Marfey’s Analysis
Background: Cyanobacteria have a worldwide distribution in the terrestrial habitats, occurring predominantly on the surface of the soils, stones, rocks, and trees, practically in moist, neutral or alkaline aeries. The unique natural and bioactive compounds from cyanobacteria with various biological activities and an extensive range of chemical classes have a significant capabil...
متن کاملHemopressin is an inverse agonist of CB1 cannabinoid receptors.
To date, the endogenous ligands described for cannabinoid receptors have been derived from membrane lipids. To identify a peptide ligand for CB(1) cannabinoid receptors, we used the recently described conformation-state sensitive antibodies and screened a panel of endogenous peptides from rodent brain or adipose tissue. This led to the identification of hemopressin (PVNFKFLSH) as a peptide liga...
متن کاملThe Identification of a Novel Peptide Derived from Lactoferrin Isolated from Camel Milk with Potential Antimicrobial Activity
Background and Objective: Antimicrobial peptides have attracted significant attention in recent decades because of their properties, such as rapid bactericidal effects, having a wide spectrum of activity, and a rare development of drug resistance. The purpose of this study was to examine the antibacterial activity of a peptide derived from the lactoferrin isolated from camel milk against Staphy...
